Objective: SWBAT prove Elie has moved from the level of "Love/belonging" to the level of "Safety" and is beginning to move to the level of "Physiological" on Maslow's Pyramid.

Do-Now

The rabbi’s son was willing to abandon his father in order to survive.  Do you believe Elie will ever reach this point?  Why or why not?  Would you abandon your family if your survival depended on it?  Explain why or why not.

Today: 1) Review questions from Sections 6 and 7.

2) Review the "Physiological" level of Maslow's pyramid.

3) Class will read Section 8 of "Night" and begin completing the review questions for the section.

4) Individually, begin reading Section 9 of "Night" and continue to work on the review questions.

Exit Slip: What evidence in Section 8 proves Elie is no longer on the level of "Love/belonging?"  What evidence in Section 9 proves he is on the level of "Safety?"  What evidence at the end of the book proves he is on the level of "Physiological?"

Homework: Finish reading Section 9 and complete the review questions for the section.
