Tuesday, October 1

Objective: SWBAT compare the main themes and characters of two books written by the same author.

Do-NowHow are Raspberry’s morals toward right and wrong similar/different to Maleeka’s?  Think about the immoral things each character did.  What were their motivations for doing wrong?

Today: 1) Go over questions for Chapters 10-14.

2) Class will read Chapters 15 and 16 together, beginning to answer review questions.

3) Individually, read Chapters 17-19, finishing the review questions.

Exit SlipRaspberry was falsely accused of stealing and Maleeka took the blame for vandalizing Ms. Saunder’s classroom.  How did each character react towards being accused of something they didn’t do?
 
Homework: Finish reading Chapters 15-19 and complete the review questions.  "The Skin I'm In" Project is due Wednesday, October 9!  Test on "The Skin I'm In" and "Money Hungry" on Wednesday, October 9!

Do-NowRaspberry works for the money she has and Ja’Nae steals for money.  What do you believe might account for their different morals?  Why is Raspberry willing to work for money while Ja’Nae is not?

Today: 1) Review Questions for Chapters 5-9.

2) Class will read Chapters 10 and 11, beginning the review questions.

3) Individually, read Chapters 12-14, completing the review questions.

Exit SlipWas Raspberry right for stealing the money from Ja’Nae?  Was it really stealing since Ja’Nae already owed her the money?  What is the difference between Ja’Nae’s act of theft and Raspberry’s?

Do-Now: FREE WRITE - Write 5-7 sentences about anything you want OR Write about your initial reactions to "Money Hungry."

Today: 1) Reading Speed Chart

2) Review questions for Chapters #1-4.

3) Discuss initial similarities between "Money Hungry" and "The Skin I'm In."

4) Class will read Chapters #5-6 together, answering the review questions.

Exit Slip: Why does Raspberry feel such a strong need to make money?  What does money mean to her?  Why is Raspberry willing to do things for money that her friends aren't?  What does her relationship with money tell you about her character?

Objective: SWBAT compare the main themes and characters of two books written by the same author.

Do-NowWhat do you do when you want to buy something, but don’t have the money?  Do you find a way to earn the money or ask someone else for it?  Explain.  Give an example of something you wanted that you didn't have the money for.  How did you get the money to buy it?  If you didn't get the money, how did you feel not getting what you wanted?  Explain.

Today: 1) Buzz Words for "Money Hungry"

2) Discussion: What role did money play in "The Skin I'm In?"

3) Class will read Chapters 1-2 and begin completing the review questions.

4) Individually, read Chapters 3-4, completing the review questions.

Exit Slip: Both Raspberry and Maleeka are poor, yet Raspberry appears to have a greater desire for money.  What do you believe might account for the girls' different attitudes toward money?  Explain.

Homework: Chapter titles for "The Skin I'm In" due TOMORROW.  Continue working on "The Skin I'm In" Project.

Exit Slip: Based on the Anticipation Guide and the Buzz Words for "Money Hungry," what do you believe may happen in the book?  Make predictions similar to the ones you made for "The Skin I'm In."  Make sure to write AT LEAST FIVE full sentences.
