Objective: SWBAT examine the themes of racial and social bias in a novel and apply those themes to their own lives.

Do-Now: Consider the book's title, "The Skin I'm In."  Are you comfortable with the skin you're in?  Explain why or why not.

Today: 1) Article and Questions on Racial Bias

2) Class will read Chapter #1 of "The Skin I'm In" as a group.  What do we learn about Maleeka and Ms. Saunders in this chapter?

3) Individually, in pairs, or groups of three, read Chapters #2-3.

4) Create titles for Chapters #1-3 (first two pages of your pocket.)

5) Complete review questions (from your packet) for Chapters #1-3.

Exit Slip: Describe the relationship between Maleeka and Charlese.  Do you believe the two of them are really friends?  Do you believe Charlese is a good influence on Maleeka?  Why or why not?  

Homework: Finish Chapter #1-3 Questions
