Objective: SWBAT examine themes of racial and social bias in a novel and apply those themes to their own lives.

Do-Now: Complete Warm-Up for Chapters 17-19 in your packet.

Today: 1) Class Venn Diagram: Comparing qualities of a good teacher with qualities of a good parent.

2) Review questions for Chapters 14-16.  Discuss Maleeka's choice to stay at McClendon Middle School instead of transferring to Central Middle School and what this choice says about her identity.

3) Class will read Chapters 17-19.

4) Complete review questions for Chapters 17-19.  Create chapter titles for Chapters 17-19.

Exit Slip: Why do you believe Caleb didn't stand up for Maleeka when she got teased the day they went to Washington, D.C.?  Should Maleeka forgive him for not standing up for her that day?  If you were Maleeka, would you forgive him?  Why or why not?

Homework: Reflection - Think about a time when you stood up for someone or someone stood up for you.  Write a reflection in which you describe the incident and explain why you stood up for this person (or why you believe this person stood up for you.)  What happened as a result?  Your reflection should be at least TEN sentences long.  Worth = 10 points (5 for length, 5 for description/explanation.)
