ObjectiveSWBAT examine the themes of racial and social bias in a novel and apply those themes to their own lives.

Do-Now: Complete the Warm-Up for Chapters 11-13 in your packet.

Today: 1) Review questions for Chapters #7-10.

2) Class will read Chapter #11 together.

3) In pairs/groups, read Chapters #12-13.

4) Answer questions for Chapters #11-13.

5) Create titles for Chapters #11-13.

Exit Slip: Consider the class' discussion on "Romeo & Juliet" from the book.  Is there anyone in your life who you love more than yourself?  Would you be willing to die for this person?  Explain.

Homework: Look back over Chapters #1-13 and find THREE loaded phrases which deal with appearance/identity.  Examples: "It takes a long time to accept yourself for who you are.  To see the poetry in your walk."  "Maleeka, your skin is pretty.  Like a blue-black sky after it's rained and rained."  "He said I was pretty.  He said he liked my eyes and my sweet cocoa brown skin."
