Objective: SWBAT analyze the use of symbols in “Night" and prove Elie has moved to the level of "Love/belonging" on Maslow's Pyramid.

 Do-Now: Describe the major events during Elie's three-week stay at Auschwitz.

Today: 1) Review questions from Sections 2 and 3.

2) Review Maslow's Pyramid: Love/belonging.  Has Elie done anything to show he is on or approaching this level?

3) Introduce symbolism.  What symbols have we seen so far in the novel?

4) Class will begin reading Section 4 and begin completing the review questions.

5) Individually, continue reading Section 4 and continue working on the review questions.

Exit Slip: Choose one symbol from Section 4 and explain what it represents.  What evidence do you see in Section 4 which proves Elie is no longer on the level of "Esteem" and has moved to the level of "Love/belonging?"  Explain.

Homework: Finish reading Section 4 and complete the review questions for the section.
