Objective: SWBAT
evaluate Elie’s rejection of religion and describe how it reflects his position on
Maslow’s pyramid of needs.
Do-Now: What do you feel has been the most horrifying image Elie has described for us so far in the book? Why does this image stick out to you? Why do you believe the author chose to include this image in his story? (Examples: The hanged child. The burning pile of baby/child corpses.)
Today: 1) Review questions for Section 4 of "Night."
2) Review the "Safety" level of Maslow's Pyramid.
3) Class will begin reading Section 5 of "Night" and completing the review questions.
4) Individually, continue reading Section 5 of "Night" and working on the review questions.
Exit Slip: What evidence shows Elie is still on the level of Love/belonging? What evidence shows he is starting to move to the level of Safety? What might happen to make Elie move completely to the level of Safety?
Homework: Finish reading Section 5 of "Night" and complete the review questions.
