Objective: Students
will be able to characterize Alfred in order to make predictions about events
in “The Contender.”
Do-Now: Choose THREE of the statements from your Anticipation Guide which you will discuss with the class. Put a star next to these three statements and be prepared to discuss/debate them with the class.
Today: 1) Go over Anticipation Guide
2) Introduce Characterization: We can characterize someone based on his/her physical appearance, dialogue, actions, thoughts, and how other characters feel about or react to the him/her
3) Class will read Chapter 1 of "The Contender" and complete the review questions for the chapter.
Exit Slip: Alfred
does not go along with his friends when they leave to rob the store, however,
he does nothing to stop them from robbing the store. What does this show you about Alfred’s
character? What may happen to Alfred in
the future as a result of his lack of action against his friends?
