Objective: Students will be able to evaluate the ending of "The Giver" in order to determine if the outside world is more utopic or dystopic than Jonas' society.

Do-Now: Do you believe Jonas’ plan will work?  Explain why or why not.  What might go wrong with his plan?  Do you believe Jonas will find happiness on the outside of his community?  Explain why or why not.

Today: 1) Go over Exit Slips from Monday

2) Go over questions for Chapters 19-20

3) Class will read Chapter 21 and complete the review questions for the chapter.

4) Read Chapter 22 and complete the review questions for the chapter.

Exit Slip: 

Now that Jonas has left the community, he is no longer protected from cold and hunger.  Would Jonas have been better off staying in his community, or is the chance at a new life worth his life?  Explain.

Homework: Read Chapter 23 and complete the review questions for the chapter.
