Objective: SWBAT evaluate at least one piece of evidence in Chapter #1 of “The Giver” to prove Jonas' society is a utopia and one piece of evidence to prove his society is a dystopia.

Do-Now: 

Describe a “perfect” world.  What would it look like?  What would the people look/act like?  What would a perfect world have?  What would a perfect world NOT have?

Today: 1) What is a utopia?  What is a dystopia?

2) Anticipation Guide for "The Giver"

AGREE or DISAGREE: It is okay to lie in order to protect someone from a horrible truth, even if that truth could one day hurt him/her.
