Objective: Students
will be able to evaluate evidence in “The Giver” in order to determine if
Jonas’ society represents a utopia or dystopia.
Do-Now: If
you were Jonas and were given the assignment of Receiver, how would you
feel? Would this be an assignment you’d
want to have? How might it affect your
life to have memories and knowledge no one else has?
Today: 1) Go over answers to Chapters 13 and 14.
2) Class will read Chapters 15 and 16, completing the review questions for the chapters.
Exit Slip: How can the absence of love in Jonas' society be viewed as utopic? How can it be viewed as dystopic? Why do you believe love does not exist in Jonas' society? (Think about what problems it might cause.)
Homework: Read Chapter 17 and complete the review questions for the chapter.
