Objective: Students
will be able to characterize Alfred in order to make predictions about events
in “The Contender.”
Do-Now: Take out your Anticipation Guide for "The Contender" and put a star next to THREE of the statements you want to discuss with the class.
Today: 1) Discuss Anticipation Guide for "The Contender."
2) Review characterization: How can we characterize someone based on his/her looks, actions, dialogue, and what other character's think/feel about him/her?
3) Class will read Chapter 1 of "The Contender" and complete the review questions for the chapter.
4) Begin reading Chapter 2 of "The Contender" and begin the review questions for the chapter.
Exit Slip: Alfred
does not go along with his friends when they leave to rob the store, however,
he does nothing to stop them from robbing the store. What does this show you about Alfred’s
character? What may happen to Alfred in
the future as a result of his lack of action against his friends?
